The first USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) Type-C® Port Protector for Active Cable is launched

Hsinchu, Jun 5, 2025 -- Fortune Advanced Technology today launched its first-ever USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) Type-C® Port Protector for Active Cable
The USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) port protector product FA2219 of Fortune Advanced Technology for active cable supports 2-channel (CC, VCONN) overvoltage protection. For more information, please refer to "Home > Products > USB Type-C Solutions > Type-C Port Protectors".
Due to the extremely small size of the USB Type-C® connector, the CC and VCONN pins are located next to the VBUS pins, each pin is very close, and the minimum spacing is only 0.5mm. Therefore, mechanical twisting and sliding of the connector, moisture or debris, or poorly designed wires and equipment may cause a short circuit between the VBUS pin and the CC or VCONN pin.
Since the release of the USB Type-C® connector, many USB Type-C® products and accessories that do not comply with the USB Type-C® specification have been released. An example is USB Type-C® Power Delivery adapters that only provide 20V on the VBUS line.
This will cause a short circuit between the 20V VBUS pin and the CC or VCONN pin, causing damage to the CC or VCONN and related circuits. This non-ideal equipment and mechanical events make CC and VCONN pins able to withstand 20V voltage, even if these pins can only work at 5V or lower.
In addition, with the introduction of USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V), the VBUS pin can now carry voltage levels up to 48V because USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) allows the VBUS voltage to be increased to 48V through the Power Delivery protocol.
Our FA2219 is a single-chip USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) Type-C® port protector for active cable, which can provide 60V short-to-VBUS overvoltage protection for the C_CC and C_VCONN pins on the connector side without interfering with normal operation. The FA2219 places high-voltage FETs in series on the CC and VCONN lines. If the voltage on these lines is detected to be higher than the overvoltage threshold, the switch will be quickly opened. The response time of the overvoltage protection can reach 100ns. The CC and VCONN pins of other ICs inside the active cable can be protected from high voltage.
FA2219 provides the miniaturized and high thermal-performance packaging to meet special considerations such as heat dissipation, and extremely small PCB area of active cables.
Package and availability
WLCSP 1.905x1.905-16L packaged FA2219 can be obtained through authorized distributors in June 2025. Full and custom quantity reels are available.
